10 Ways to Burn 100 Calories

While half an hour of exercise a day is a great way to lose weight and stay healthy, not all of us can find the time.

Which is why we’ve put together a list of exercises to help you burn 100 calories without taking a large chunk out of your day.

Ten minutes of cycling

Just ten minutes of moderate cycling is enough to burn off 100 calories. So if your workplace is a 20- minute cycle ride away, you’ll burn around 200 calories just getting there (and you’ll save yourself money on fuel, too).

A 15-minute walk

Quarter of an hour of brisk walking can easily burn off 100 calories. And you don’t even have to do it all at once, either. Try parking a little further away from the entrance at the supermarket or try walking to the local shop instead of driving. You’ll be surprised how quickly those 15 minutes add up.

A 10-15 minute video workout

This is one of the simplest and most enjoyable ways to burn 100 calories. Simply find a workout video you enjoy (YouTube is a good source) and work out to it. You can even do this during your lunch break at work, as long as you steer clear of the open-plan office.

Eight minutes of jogging

If you don’t have a spare 15 minutes to take a walk, try jogging the same distance instead. This will burn the same amount of calories in half the time. And you’ll feel rejuvenated at the end of it.

Seven minutes’ worth of skipping

With the ability to burn 100 calories in just seven minutes, it’s no surprise that skipping is such a popular high-energy workout for martial artists, footballers, and even boxers. And this is in addition to the increased heart rate, breathing rate, and leg movement needed for skipping, all of which can help to improve your heart, lungs, and leg strength.

Quarter of an hour of dancing

Depending on the type of dancing you’re doing, burning 100 calories can be a doddle. And you don’t even need to join a class, either—simply turn up the radio and cut loose at any time of the day (unless you’re in the office, of course).

Take the stairs

Try taking the stairs instead of the elevator when possible. You’ll find that, in the course of one day, this can put you well on the way to burning 100 calories.

Spend an hour in the garden (or half an hour mowing the lawn)

Spending an hour in the garden weeding, spreading mulch, and planting flowers or vegetables can be an enjoyable and productive way to burn off that 100 calories. And, if you add in digging, turning, hoeing and mowing, you’ll be able to achieve it in half the time. And you’ll have a beautiful, well- maintained garden to show for it.

Spend 25 minutes washing the car

Spending 25 minutes washing the car can be a great way of burning 100 calories while saving money at the same time. And, if you wax the car afterwards, you’ll burn even more calories and get a good arm and shoulder workout, too. And you’ll have a nice shiny car to show for it.

26 minutes of housework

Spring cleaning isn’t the most exciting job in the world—but it can be a great way to burn a few extra calories and have something to show for it. Scrubbing floors, mopping, carrying bags of laundry, hovering, moving furniture, and carrying heavy bags of rubbish are all great ways of burning calories, boosting your heart rate, and improving your muscle tone.
